Breel Embolo scored from the spot in the 17th minute, on a play that may or may not have been offside (something the technology was supposed to make clearer by now). From there, the Nati passed it around for two halves, made a handful of decent chances, and mostly drained the joy out of the building.

They finished with 3.24 xG, 68 percent possession, and exactly one goal to show for it.

Qatar, overrun for long stretches, were somehow the more alive of the two sides, and in stoppage time they got what their energy probably deserved. Boualem Khoukhi headed home the equalizer to make it 1-1.

That leaves Group B in a perfect deadlock: both opening games finished 1-1, and all four teams sit on a single point.
